The Zimbabwe School’s Water and Agriculture Programme (Zim) started in 2015 and is a programme designed to assist schools through the provision of solar powered boreholes, drip irrigation and agronomy support, with the aim of providing: - Self-sufficiency in vegetables and associated produce for the school - Income generation through sales of the produce to the surrounding communities - Education for pupils in the skills of growing agricultural produce, its distribution and use to generate income, leading to self-sufficiency.

Drill Sergeant will use new technology. Its pipes and fittings are of very high standards with very long life spans. Extreme care is taken for casings that are laid with high expertise to ensure your borehole has the high yields hence value for money. Borehole fitting is carried out after siting and a capacity test.
The solar power system will ensure a constant power source and provide an environmental friendly energy source. The system is cost effective.
This system is good for a small yard or for watering individual plants. Drip irrigation is highly effective at supplying one to four gallons of water per hour directly to the soil. The advantage of drip irrigation over sprinklers is that there is little water loss due to evaporation or runoff.
Benefits. Solar irrigation can increase incomes dramatically, particularly for remote producers with inconsistent access to electricity or fuel. By targeting water at a crop's roots, drip irrigation can reduce weed and disease pressures, and increase efficiency of chemical applications
A food supply chain or food system refers to the processes that describe how food from a farm ends up on our tables. The processes include production, processing, distribution, consumption and disposal.
Water is a fundamental human need. Each person on Earth requires at least 20 to 50 liters of clean, safe water a day for drinking, cooking, and simply keeping themselves clean. Polluted water isn't just dirty—it's deadly. Some 1.8 million people die every year of diarrheal diseases like cholera
Since its founding in 2015, ZimSWAP has implemented the project in 144 schools in Zimbabwe providing clean and safe drinking water to over 90, 000 school-going children and the community. As a result, since the inception of the project, schools have run viable projects in production of market gardening vegetables such as beetroot, cabbages, green pepper, kale, potatoes, as well as good crop yields of maize. These projects have been life changing and have given much needed income to the schools involved.
The funding for the projects undertaken so far have all been through commercial bank loans at an annual interest rate of 11%, which is the current rate pertaining in Zimbabwe at present. To date there have been no defaulting schools on loan repayments for the projects implemented, despite the economic situation pertaining and the current cost of the project at US$15,000 per school. This is not common in micro lending in Africa.
